Dr. Babongile Mkhize is a visionary leader in science diplomacy, with over 19 years of experience that has contributed to South Africa’s technological and economic development. Her distinguished career encompasses a deep expertise in fostering international partnerships, driving innovation, and modernizing human capital to a tech-ready actor in the economy. As a prominent figure in the South African Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI), Dr. Mkhize has played a crucial role in strengthening global Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) partnerships. She was instrumental in pioneering the BRICS Young Scientists Forum in 2016, enhancing collaboration among emerging economies—a project that mirrors Stresemann’s objectives in global innovation networks. As the Director for Innovation Priorities and Instruments, she effectively managed a ZAR 1 billion portfolio that advanced technology development and intellectual property protection.
